It is the oldest church in Kłodzko surviving to the present day. The church appeared in written documents for the first time in the early 12th century. The foundation stone for the present church was laid by the local Knights Hospitaller. The construction of the church actually began only after the death of Ernest of Pardubice, the first Archbishop of Prague and principal founder. Foremost among the artists hired to decorate the church was Michael Klahr the Elder.
